Abel Briquet ( dates unknown) was a teacher of photography at the French military academy of Saint- Cyr and studio photographer in Paris. He arrived in Mexico in 1883 with the goal of photographing the Mexican ports for Compagnie Maritime Transatlantique . In 1885 he established his studio in Mexico City and began producing large number of photographs on various subjects , from landscape , flora, fauna and types, up views of buildings and pre-Columbian and colonial monuments. He made several albums for the government of Porfirio Diaz on modernization projects and public works. He also published a series of photographs with titles like Mexican and Mexican Types views . Briquet is considered the first commercial photographer of Mexico .
