Carlota Duarte is an artist who was active in Boston for many years and more recently has headed a collaborative art project in Chiapas, Mexico since 1992. She has an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design, and her photographs and paintings have been exhibited and published in the US, Mexico and Iceland. Her professional experience includes teaching (University of Massachusetts-Lowell, 1978-1987) and lecturing, as well as curatorial work. Her book Odella, a hidden survivor (University of New Mexico Press) was published in 1990. Carlota Duarte has dual nationality (US- Mexico) and is a member of the Society of the Sacred Heart, an international Catholic order of nuns.
